Time For A Change

New York Giants Head Coach Ben McAdoo and General Manager Jerry Reese have been fired. It was time for a change. There will be plenty of candidates lining up for the job.(Photo Credit: Giants.com)

Here is what happened in McAdoo’s last game as Head Coach.

The New York Giants lost to the Oakland Raiders 24-17 on Sunday. The loss moves the Giants to 2-10 on the season.

What Went Right: Rookie tight end Evan Engram broke out of his little funk with a huge game on Sunday. He finished with seven catches for 99 yards and a touchdown. Engram also had a phenomenal one-handed catch in the fourth quarter. He now leads all rookie tight ends in every receiving category. The Giants lost, which may not seem like it should be in the “What Went Right” section, but the loss moves the Giants into the second overall pick in the upcoming 2018 NFL Draft. Not only will the first-round pick be one of the top players in the draft, but the second-round pick will be like getting a late first round pick. The Giants could strike gold with a projected first-round pick falling out of the first round into the early second round.

What Went Wrong- Quarterback Geno Smith starting a game is the worst thing that happened on Sunday. Nothing against Geno Smith, he played well and gave it his best effort, but Eli Manning’s streak should have never been ended. Benching Eli was the ultimate sign of disrespect to a man who represented what it means to be a New York Giant. Quarterback Geno Smith had two costly strip sacks. Without these strip sacks, the Giants would have had the chance to win this game.

McAdoo and Reese have been relieved of their duties and rightfully so. There are many people who would love to have either of the two jobs now vacant for the Giants.

My picks are New England Patriots Offensive Coordinator Josh McDaniels for Head Coach and New England Patriots VP of Personnel Nick Caserio for General Manager. It would be interesting to see what a good offensive minded Head Coach could do with wide receivers Odell Beckham, Sterling Shepard, Roger Lewis and tight end Evan Engram.
