Giants Shutout By Cardinals – One Game Left in this Historically Awful Season

The New York Giants lost to the Arizona Cardinals 23-0 on Sunday. The loss moves them to 2-13 on the season. This is officially the worst team in the  92-year history of the franchise, as no other Giants team has lost 13 games. (Photo Credit:

What Went Right- Cornerback Ross Cockrell had his best game as a Giant, recoding two tackles to go along with two interceptions. Cockrell hasn’t been what the Giants had hoped he would be this year, but he had a nice game when almost no one else on the Giant’s roster did. The good news about losing is the second overall draft pick is still intact. Think about what a losing season did for the Dallas Cowboys back in 2015. They ended up with the fourth overall pick and selected Ezekiel Elliot. The Giants aren’t as bad as they seem. Once a team starts losing, many players tend to give up. No matter what they say, the Giants players gave up at some point this season. This lost season may end up being a blessing in disguise. The Giants will have the opportunity to draft three of the top 70 players in the draft, which should help to improve an already solid roster.

What Went Wrong- The Giants were shutout for the first time since October 12, 2014. The Giants offense was pathetic. They have the most three and outs in the NFL with 54 on the season. That is just poor coaching. They were able to gain 293 yards, but due to the amount of penalties, the total yards are deceiving as they were making up ground for all the yards lost due to penalties. The Giants committed 10 penalties for 101 yards which doesn’t include a few penalties that were called on third down but didn’t matter because the Giants didn’t successfully convert. The Cardinals came into Sunday’s game without scoring an offensive touchdown in the last 10 quarters. Against the Giants, that quickly changed.

Sunday was a perfect opportunity to play rookie quarterback Davis Webb. Unless the Giants have seen something in practice, it makes zero sense why the rookie has yet to be active and see the field this season. Hopefully in week 17, Webb will play so we can see what we have in him.
